Is the Economy really that bad?
Jan 9 2009, 10:57 AM EST
If you believe the papers we are in for a tough time this year. But should it be so? The government has decided to spend our way out of the potential recession, resulting in the announcement that the much postponed dual-ing of the A46 between Widmerpool and Newark (going past Bingham) will now happen. The workers on this project will be bringing cash into Bingham, with consequential beneficial effect on the rest of Bingham's business economy. The future is bright - if you want it to be:) Do you find this valuable? |

Hi MalI'm totally convinced that it isn't as bad as the impression given by the news. I was talking to a leading retailer recently who was saying that despite all the stories of retail failures, overall UK sales for the retail sector as a whole are down around 4%. Of course the spectacle of closures and cut backs is because there are winners and losers, and I suspect the banks aren't helping. Our biggest customer is mothercare, and they recently announced significant increases in UK sales and profits. Not sure that dualing the 46 will bring immediate significant benefit to Bingham. I don't fancy the hassle of road closures and disruption while it's built, but will certainly enjoy using it! Cheers Mike Do you find this valuable? |
