MalSales Going to work by bus 5 Feb 13 2009, 10:17 AM EST by betterlanguages.com

I'm sure we've all noticed the appalling weather this week. We had a wedding to photograph in the centre of Nottingham yesterday (Friday 6th Feb), and given the road conditions and the parking restrictions at the Hotel Anne & I decided we'd travel in by bus. It's all too easy to throw everything (including the proverbial kitchen sink) into the boot of the car, just in case it's needed.

This was a small one venue wedding, so we packed everything into our Photo Rucksacks, plus a bag with lighting stands, umbrellas and a monopod and walked to the bus stop for our lift into town.

In the event we had a great day! We spend some time in Nottingham and then walked to the Hotel for our wedding. In addition to all the snow that fell during the week the groom had organised a snow machine to add extra white to the pictures, it certainly added atmosphere! The pictures are great and will be on my website during the week.

Lesson learned? One doesn't have to go everywhere by car, occasionally a bit of lateral thinks can pay off!

MalSales Is the Economy really that bad? 1 Jan 9 2009, 12:38 PM EST by betterlanguages.com

If you believe the papers we are in for a tough time this year. But should it be so? The government has decided to spend our way out of the potential recession, resulting in the announcement that the much postponed dual-ing of the A46 between Widmerpool and Newark (going past Bingham) will now happen. The workers on this project will be bringing cash into Bingham, with consequential beneficial effect on the rest of Bingham's business economy.

The future is bright - if you want it to be:)

It would be great to get some discussions going on the new site. So what do other businesses think about being based in Bingham? Personally I think its a great place to live and work. The fact that I don't very often have to go into Nottingham in the rush hour probably helps! When visiting clients I find the road access North and South very good, apart from the unduelled bit of the A46.

Another thing I find very good is internet access. Running an e-business, guaranteed connectivity is really important to us. The fact that we can have high speed business broadband from both Virgin and BT is very useful to us. I was amazed to learn that some parts of the town still don't have the option of cable. We've had interruption to service from both providers at different times, and having both has meant that we could carry on normally without loss of service to our customers.

Cheers
Mike
